Colorado Railroading History
To start your journey into Colorado Railroad History, we recommend the History Colorado website. History Colorado, formerly known as the Colorado Historical Society, is not a single building. It is instead a series of “registered” historic sites and properties throughout Colorado that were restored using grants provided by History Colorado.
The History Colorado website is divided into several sections:
- Museums and Exhibits
- Programs & Learning
- Research
- Preservation & Archaeology
- Events & Experiences
- Get Involved
Here are some other useful shortcuts to information that you may find interesting:
- The Search Page
- Searching for “locomotives“
- Searching for the “2912“, the AT&SF locomotive owned by the PRF in Pueblo, CO
- Searching for “railroads” where the results include specific restored artifacts like:
There is also the special publication “Railroads in Colorado, 1858-1948“, which includes a link to download the 200 page National Park Service document “Railroads in America, The Historic and Technological Evolution of Colorado’s Railroads, 1858-1948” (PDF).
